A large insurance carrier is is looking to hire a seasoned VP & Actuary who will be responsible for leading and managing the and actuarial department. This is a hybrid role based in Philadelphia, PA.

Duties and Responsibilities for this Position:

  • Collaborate with management to coordinate actuarial support.
  • Oversee the actuarial pricing team, managing staff priorities, workloads, training, and development to ensure the timely completion of:
    • Annual pricing studies and ad-hoc pricing requests
    • Monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including price monitoring and NvR, while enhancing these reports when needed
    • Large account pricing referrals
  • Partner with the Finance team in the annual planning process by providing loss ratio projections and supporting planning documents; track and adjust loss ratios monthly throughout the year with re-bridging.
  • Support the purchase and placement of reinsurance by collaborating with the Ceded Re team to provide necessary data and analytics.
  • Work with the Global and North America Analytics teams as needed to complete projects and support implementation efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial pricing or reserving.
  • ACAS or FCAS certification is preferred, or equivalent professional qualifications.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with tools and programming languages like Radar, SQL, R, or Python is a plus, but not mandatory. Attention to detail and a strong willingness to learn new tools and technologies are essential.
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience is preferred, though not required. We encourage applicants who have demonstrated leadership potential through leading projects or mentoring others.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities are critical for success in this role.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills are necessary, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective collaboration skills are important, with the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and functions. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to clearly convey information to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
